Newmarket is recognised globally as the world headquarters of horseracing and the title is well deserved. The town where racing began under the Stuart Kings James I and Charles II in the 17th century, has a unique environment consisting of nearly 3,000 acres of training grounds catering for an estimated 2,500 horses in training with around 70 licensed trainers. There are also more than 60 thoroughbred stud farms where the champions of the future are bred and nurtured.
