PEDAL power was the way forward in Wood Ditton as 20 people cycled 600 miles on exercise bikes for charity.
Residents and churchgoers joined together at Wood Ditton church to take on the gruelling challenge for Newmarket charity Open Door.

Tracy Grimster, main organiser, said: "We did it in three hours 45 minutes which I thought was quite quick. We all must have been fitter than we thought."

The distance of 600 miles was the equivalent of cycling from Newmarket around the East Anglian coastline to the Kent town of Ramsgate and back again. To make the task more manageable, riders swapped shifts on the machines every half hour.

Mrs Grimster explained: "We had a video on showing the cyclists which coastal towns they had reached during the ride which helped to spur people on."

Among those taking part was Great Britain waterskier Lucy Gale.

So far around £500 has been collected for the charity, but itis hoped that will rise to £750 once all the money is collected.
