NEWMARKET Town dented the promotion hopes of one Diss Town with a straightforward win at Brewers Green Lane on Saturday.
The Jockeys maintained their place at the top of the Ridgeons Division One table thanks to two second half goals after the match stood all-square at half time.

Lee Salmons put Newmarket in front only for the hosts to equalise through Ben Deacon just before the break.

But a goal from Dave Grainger and a Jamie Thurlbourne penalty in the second half secured all three points for Newmarket.

Newmarket Town 2, Waterbeach 1 - Cambs Invitation Cup Preliminary Round

NEWMARKET finally saw off the challenge of a determined Kershaw Premier Division side when Ricky Cornish found the net with a late header.

Newmarket went ahead after 20 minutes through Dave Grainger who has hit a rich vein of scoring form this season.

But Waterbeach fought back well and equalised with a well-struck effort from Paul Izzard.

When the game seemed certain to go into extra time, defender Cornish popped up to take his side into the next round.
