ELY City's recent run of disappointing results in the Ridgeons Premier Division continued on Saturday with a home defeat at the hands of Whitton.
Both sides created numerous chances before Whitton broke the deadlock when a lobbed shot from outside the box dropped in under the bar.

An extented spell of hard tackling and frayed tempers led to half-time with the score still at 0-1.

After th
e break, Ely saw a couple of shots hit the bar and the visiting keeper pulled off one superb save which saw him needing treatment after colliding with an upright.

When he had to leave the field, it looked inbcreasingly likely that Ely might salvage somnething from the game but when home keeper Lee Pacey failed to clear the ball and lost possession, the Whitton forward had only to dribble the ball to the line and tap it in.

Whitton made it 0-3 with a well-struck shot from the edge of the box to clinch the three points.

Ely City 2, Dereham 1 - Ridgeons League Premier Division

AN INJURY-time header from Dean Blackman saw Ely City to a good win against second-placed Dereham at the Unwin Ground on Tuesday evening.

The Robins resisted early pressure from the visitors before Dale Archer put the home side ahead midway through the first half.

Dereham scored a controversial equaliser early in the second period after opting not to kick the ball into touch when defender Jamie Alsop was on the ground injured.

But Ely pressure, particularly from set pieces, paid off late on when Blackman rose to meet Brady Stone's free kick.
